Lemon Lavender CBD Balls by Ali Miller, RD

Lemon Lavender CBD Balls featured from The Anti-Anxiety Diet Cookbook by Ali Miller, RD

Food-as-Medicine: Along with chamomile, lavender is the most popular nervine herb used for thousands of years to aid in anxiety, depression, convulsions, and even as a sedative. Nervines are plants that have a positive influence on the nervous system supporting relaxation and release of tension. When tuning into your HPA-axis and the impact of stress on the fight-or-flight response, nervines and adaptogens are among my top recommendations for aiding in stress tolerance and resilience.
The addition of CBD oil aids in neuropsychological modulating effects to mellow out stress response and support restful rebound. As a dense delivery of fat, these balls are a great tonifying way to break a fast on a stressful day and set the pace for mellow or a blissful way to end the day with your feet up to breathe in serenity setting up for a restful evening.

Prep-time: 10-15 minutes, Set-time 45-60 minutes
Ingredients
1.25 cup Brazil nuts
2/3 cup macadamia nuts
1/4 cup coconut oil melted
1/4 tsp salt
2 tsp lavender, reserve some for topping
1 heaping tsp lemon zest, zest of 1 lemon
1 tsp vanilla extract
½ tsp raw unfiltered honey
2 mL CBD oil about 70mg CBD

Directions
In a food processor using the “s” blade, blend Brazil nuts and macadamia nuts for 1 minute until at the base of food processor a nut butter forms about 1” thick.
Add melted coconut oil, salt, 1 ¾ tsp lavender, lemon zest, vanilla extract, honey, and CBD oil and pulse to combine.

Then blend once more on process mode for about 30-45 seconds until one large mass starts to form.
Scrape from sides using spatula and transfer into a bowl. Set in freezer for 15-20 minutes to harden and allow coconut oil to thicken.
Use a small scoop or Tablespoon and scoop out 12 heaping Tbsp balls on a parchment paper lined tray or plate.
Place balls in freezer to set for about 20-45 minutes, then transfer to an airtight glass container and store in the freezer for up to 10 days.
Best to consume within 5-10 minutes of freezer as coconut oil will melt fast.

Makes 12 balls, each with about 6mg CBD oil

What is CBD oil?
Cannabidiol CBD oil (cannabidiol): this non-psychoactive compound found in cannabis may be used foundationally or as a demand-based tool to promote GABA expression in the brain which supports an inhibitory impact on stress response reducing reactivity. The human body is hard-wired with cannabinoid receptors in which CBD can interact with to yield beneficial anti-anxiety effects. CBD has a role in supporting neurological function and regulating nervous system and stress signals as well as supporting the immune system and reducing inflammation.
